  6. Proprietary colony- colony run by individuals or groups to whom land was granted.

  7. Royal colony- colony run by a governor and a council appointed by the king or queen.

  8. Apprentice- assistant who was assigned to learn a trade of a skilled craftsmen.

  9. Literacy- the ability to read and write.
